Event Photos: An Evening Honoring Chief Justice Nathan Hecht
The Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center at SMU Dedman School of Law, in partnership with Arnold Ventures, celebrated the career and retirement of Chief Justice Nathan Hecht, Texas’ longest tenured Supreme Court justice, with a reception on Thursday, May 22, 2025. First elected to the court in 1988, Chief Justice Nathan Hecht officially retired on December 31, 2024. The event honored his impact on Texas courts and his contributions to criminal justice reform.
In addition to remarks from SMU Dedman Law faculty, Chief Justice Hecht reflected on his judicial career and shared his ongoing efforts to advocate for equitable access to justice and a fair legal system for all Texans.
