Meet the Staff
Director and Cultural Intelligence Officer (Dedman College)
John-Breshaire (J.B.) Georges, Ed.D., M.S.Ed., M.Ed., M.A., was born in Brooklyn and mainly lived in and worked at various institutions throughout the New York City region before moving to Texas in 2019. For over two decades, he has worked in higher education with a firm commitment to helping students realize their potential, achieve their goals, and become lifelong learners. Dr. Georges earned his Doctor of Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and his Master of Science in Education from Baruch College (City University of New York-CUNY) in Higher Education Administration. He also earned his Master of Education degree from Tarleton State University (Texas A&M) in Educational Administration. At New York University, Dr. Georges earned his Master of Arts degree in Culture and Communication and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Individualized Study. He also earned his Associate of Arts degree in General Arts and Sciences from Pace University. In addition to spending quality time with his family and friends, he enjoys drawing, music, entertainment media, and the creative and performing arts. He also enjoys personal fitness and sports, traveling, politics, community service, researching, and learning about new skills and concepts. Even though he is still a New Yorker at heart, he loves his life in Dallas. Dr. Georges is also one of Dedman College’s Cultural Intelligence Officers.

Assistant Director and Degree Counselor:
Heather L. Sohara, M.Ed., B.A., came to Dallas from Pennsylvania in 2016. She has previously worked as an academic coordinator at Lehigh University, where she earned a master’s degree in Human Development, and as a graduation specialist at UT Dallas. She enjoys podcasts, playing games, learning Queen and Disney songs on the flute, and her cats. She is the degree counselor for students with last names beginning A-Z.

Administrative Staff:
Remonda Hammock, B.A., joined SMU in 2010 and is the Administrative Specialist I for the Office of Academic Services. She has 25+ years of experience as an Administrative Assistant and enjoys working in higher education. She was previously employed by Vanderbilt University and the University of Florida. She enjoys dancing, concerts, designing wedding and birthday party invitations, and is an avid music lover.

Eva Calvario, B.A., joined SMU in August 2025 as the Administrative Specialist within the Dedman College Academic Services Office. Born and raised in Dallas, TX, she brings over ten years of experience as an education professional supporting students from early childhood through high school at various public, private, and charter schools across Dallas. She also has much experience collaborating with and supporting faculty and staff. Ms. Calvario is a first-generation college graduate, having earned her associate degree from Dallas College and her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas - Dallas. She enjoys traveling, going to concerts, trying new restaurants, and photography.
Katherine Villa-Diaz, B.A., is a Dallas native and a graduate of Northeastern University, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic & Information Design. Before joining SMU and the Office of Academic Services, she built a multidisciplinary background in design, community outreach, and student engagement—supporting university cultural centers, diversity initiatives, and youth programming. She enjoys scary movies, video games, traveling, and karaoke.
