The observation, discovery, or creation of previously unknown ideas—is at the heart of SMU's mission. Through our programs, undergraduate students can contribute to faculty research and pursue independent projects. Undergraduate researchers are competitive job applicants because they know how to communicate, think critically, and work on a team.
Research can take many forms, including laboratory studies, archival projects, creative works, engineering design, policy analysis, business research, and community-based projects. Opportunities are available for students at different stages, from those exploring research for the first time to those completing advanced independent projects.
