Eligibility
Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair (DRSEF) covers Texas Education Agency Region 10 and includes all of Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman and Rockwall counties and part of Henderson and Van Zandt counties.
DRSEF has two divisions, Junior for grades 6 to 8 and Senior for grades 9 to 12. Students may complete projects as an individual or in a team of 2 or 3 students all from the eligible region.
Students begin by entering the fair at their local public, private, charter or home school. The top projects at each school advance to district fairs then the regional fair.
Joining the Fair
Teachers can add their classes to the science fair by contacting the science fair coordinator at their school. Schools that do not have a fair can contact the science fair coordinator for their school district to sign up. School districts without a science fair can email DRSEF@smu.edu to sign up.
Scienteer
DRSEF uses the online project management system Scienteer. A Scienteer School & Teacher's Guide is available. Students need to set up Scienteer accounts before beginning their experiments. This ensures all Scientific Review Committee (SRC) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) forms and permissions are in place before experimentation begins.
Scienteer video tutorials are available.
Entry Deadline
All entries to DRSEF must be completed using Scienteer by midnight on Friday, February 3, 2023.
Payment
Entry fees of $15 per student (not per project) are due by February 18, 2023. Payment is accepted by check or online. A formal invoice may be requested from DRSEF@smu.edu.
