[Beatles Press Conference, Dallas, 1964, No. 07]Overview

The Andy Hanson Photographs collection (1932-2008), held at the DeGolyer Library, is an important visual record of Dallas history. The large archive of more than 79,000 prints and 373,000 negatives provide a "who’s who" of people living in Dallas and the celebrities and politicians who visited the city from 1960 to 2008. Hanson’s collection includes both national and local politicians, business leaders, musicians, singers, stage, motion picture screen and television stars, comedians, authors, artists, athletes, opera virtuosi, among other professions and Dallas people of note.

Andrew “Andy” Anthony Hanson was born March 7, 1932 on a citrus farm in Falfurrias, Texas. Andy’s interest in photography started at the age of ten with his first camera and a darkroom in the family garage. Andy attended Texas A&I University, Kingsville, Texas (now Texas A&M University, Kingsville) and served as editor and photographer of the campus newspaper and the college yearbook. He transferred to the University of Houston to complete a B.S. in journalism. After graduation, he took a full-time position as photojournalist at The Houston Post. In 1960, Andy moved to Dallas to join the photography staff of The Dallas Times Herald where he remained until the newspaper closed in December 1990. Hanson continued working as a photographer in Dallas until his death in 2008.
