The Department of World Languages and Literatures offers courses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish. Course offerings range from African and French history, to cinema, to the study of international business and Latin American politics. We also offer many opportunities to study abroad and complete internships locally and internationally. A specialization in one of these languages will immerse you in global culture, history, film, art, literature, and business. The World Languages major offers an ideal double-major and complements the other dynamic majors offered at SMU. All students, whether majoring in Business and Finance, the Social Sciences, or the Arts can benefit from a language major or minor and the linguistic and cultural fluency it brings. We invite you to explore our educational programs, events, and faculty research and contact us if you have any questions.
