Ana Echevarria-Morales

Ana M. Echevarria-Morales was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She received a B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico and an M.A and aPh.D. in Comparative Literature from Cornell University where she specialized inCaribbean and Latin American literatures and cultures.Her dissertation, “Performing Subversion: A Comparative Study of Caribbean Women Playwrights,”examined the work of Caribbean women playwrights writing in Spanish, French, and English. She loves teaching and can’t think of a time when she wasn’t doing it. She taught her younger brother to read when she was in first grade, making him her first student. She has taught language, culture, literature, and writing in a variety of institutions, including the Ivy League (Cornell University), large research universities (University of California, Irvine, Emory University, The Ohio State University), a small liberal arts college (Xavier University),and a commuter school where many students were the first generation to attend college (Salem State University). She also has done volunteer work in adult education. In her free time, she loves to travel with her husband David; recent destinations have included Israel, Cyprus, and Venice.
