Department announces Master’s Program in Organizational Psychology

The SMU Board of Trustees recently approved a new graduate program in the Psychology Department. The program, an accelerated Master’s of Science degree in Organizational Psychology, will start in the fall of 2019. It involves taking a set of special courses in the senior year followed by courses in the summer and over the next academic year.  Applications for the program will be due in the late spring. Alternatively, contact Dr. Logan, the Program Advisor.

Department adopts an Open Science Policy

Psychology is the study of human behavior and cognition. Psychology students at SMU are equipped with a solid academic foundation, which our graduates find useful as they embark upon a variety of careers.

Graduate Studies

The mission of the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at Southern Methodist University is to advance clinical science and evidence-based practice by training graduate students to provide meaningful contributions to the psychological research literature and become expert providers of evidence-based psychological assessment and interventions.

Our program provides general training in clinical psychology as well as specific foci in Child/Family Psychology, Health Psychology, and Quantitative Methods.

Clinical Ph.D. program accepted into the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science

The doctoral program in clinical psychology was recently accepted into the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science. The mission of this academy is to advance clinical science and the clinical science model of education.  Members of the academy are the leading scientifically-oriented doctoral and internship training programs in clinical and health psychology in the U.S. and Canada. 


Our department has an outstanding, energetic faculty committed to research, teaching, and service. Many of our faculty members are internationally recognized scholars who regularly publish their research in top academic outlets and receive grant support for their research. Our faculty serve on review boards for our field's top academic journals, on committees that review federal grant applications, and in administrative roles in prestigious scientific societies. Many of our faculty have won awards from a variety of organizations. 

Presently, our faculty consists of 15 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, one clinical professor, and three lecturers. We will be hiring one additional assistant professor to start in the fall of 2019.

SMU Psychology Clinic

The SMU Psychology Clinic is a training site that is part of the SMU doctoral program in clinical psychology. Clinicians are graduate students and post-doctoral trainees who are supervised by licensed clinical psychologists, many of whom are faculty in the SMU Department of Psychology.
