Research, Reference, and Instruction
The reference librarians can provide research assistance, information literacy and bibliographic instruction, and tutorials on specific resources (such as ATLA and BibleWorks) to faculty and students. In addition, special collections staff can offer assistance in finding and using primary source materials. Please Ask Bridwell Reference or contact a member of the special collections staff for more information.
To learn more about how SMU Libraries can offer additional support, please visit our Teaching and SMU Libraries page for information and a list of current services for faculty and teaching assistants.
Faculty Borrowing Privileges
Current full-time, current adjunct, and retired members of the SMU faculty may borrow most circulating items for one year with unlimited renewals. Please note these limitations:
- Items may be recalled which will shorten the loan period and recalled materials may not be renewed
- Overdue recalled items accrue a fine of $1.00 per day
- Items needed for reserve are subject to immediate recall
SMU faculty members may authorize up to five proxy accounts for assistants to transact library business on their behalf. Faculty members are responsible for all materials checked out to a proxy.
A proxy account request form is available at the Bridwell Library Circulation Desk or online.
Faculty Course Reserve Service
This service is for Perkins School of Theology and Graduate Program in Religious Studies faculty who wish to place materials on reserve at Bridwell Library.
Use the Course Reserve Request Form to submit a course reserve reading list. Please complete a separate form for each course reading list.
For more information and instructions about placing materials on reserve please visit our Place Materials on Reserve page.
Suggest a Purchase
Bridwell Library invites SMU faculty to suggest that we purchase items not found in the Library Catalog.
Please use the Suggest a Purchase form to recommend materials.
The requester will be notified when each requested item is received or if the library will not be ordering a requested item.
