International Student and Scholar Services invites international students, scholars, and their dependents to join us for events throughout the year. Though this wide range of social and informative events, you have the opportunity to connect with others in the international community at SMU, receive additional information relevant to your immigration status, and the opportunity to explore and have fun at SMU and in Dallas. Please check your SMU email and the SMU International Student & Scholar Services Facebook page for more information about specific events. August

BED BATH & BEYOND- SHOPPING TRIP - Fri., Aug 11, 9:00am-12:00pm  Transportation is provided. Shuttle pickup on Bishop Blvd by the SMU Flagpole. Round trips from campus starting at 8:45am with last shuttle departing store at 12pm.

Bed Bath & Beyond will be hosting special promotion of 20% off your ENTIRE purchase for this exclusive shopping event to help you purchase home essentials to become move-in ready.

INTERNATIONAL WELCOME FAIR – Wed., August 16, 4pm-6pm  Blanton Building, 1st and 2nd Floor

All new and current international students welcome. Vendors from Dallas & SMU will be present to share information on helpful resources in your transition to the U.S. There will also be many chances to win great prizes - including a new bicycle!

Don't miss one of our biggest events of the year! A night of fun games, SMU prizes, free food and a chance to meet new people. Cohosted by the International Student Organization, Alliance of Graduate International Lyle Engineers and ISSS Office.  

International Students:Your Transition to SMU - Thurs., Aug 31, 4pm-5pm        Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center (A-LEC), Loyd All Sports Center, Suite 202

An academic skills workshop designed to assist both undergraduate and graduate international students in their transition to the U.S. classroom. Focus areas will include time management and awareness of academic support services across campus. 

AMERICAN FOOTBALL 101- Mon., Aug 28, 5pm-6:30pm, Lloyd All Sports Center Lobby

Coach Malone, the Defensive Coordinator of SMU's football team will be talking about the football culture and  teaching us the basics of football. You will get to sit in the same facility that the team gets to be in and later, take a tour of the sports complex.

By attending this event you will get a free shirt, free football game tickets to the first game (with an SMU ID), AND an opportunity to get on the field to watch the warm up for the Saturday game!  This event is open to dependents and families as well.

TOUR OF DALLASThurs. September 14, 4pm-9pm, Bus to pickup on Binkley, in front of Blanton Building

Get to know the city of Dallas with a private guided tour! We will hop on a shuttle and tour the highlights including the the West End Historic District, Pioneer Plaza, Kylde Warren Park, American Airlines Center, and more. The trip costs $15 (cash only) which also includes special southern dinner. Registration opens August 23rd in Blanton, Suite 112. There are 50 spots available on first come, first served basis. You won't want to miss out on this great trip!

WORK AUTHORIZATION INFORMATION SESSION, Mon. Sept 11, 3pm-4pm, Blanton Room 110

Interested in employment opportunities? Join an ISSS immigration advisor for this session as they discuss the different options for those seeking employment, the immigration requirements and steps needed for those processes.

COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR PROFESSOR Mon. Sept 11 4pm-5pm, Fondren Red Room 109

American professors and teaching styles can be very different from your home country. In many cases, professors expectations of students are very different and can even influence your grades. Learn strategies to engage in good professional communication with your professor to have a positive academic experience.

BIRTHDAY BASH! - Mon.Sept 18, 3:30pm-4:30pm Blanton Building Room 112

If your birthday is in August or September we would love for you and your friends to join us to celebrate! Meet other students with birthdays in the same months. We will have birthday cake and a special gift from the ISSS team.

REUNION TOWER - Fri. Sept 29, 12:30pm-4:30pm

Experience a 360 degree view of the city of Dallas from 470 feet above the ground. The Reunion Tower trip will include admission to the GeO-Deck where there are powerful telescopes, high definition zoom cameras and interactive digital displays. We will also stop for a reserved dining experience in the Cloud Nine Cafe for desserts with a view. This is all included in the $20 ticket. We will be using DART for our travel, please have DART pass ready. You can register and purchase your ticket HERE using a debit or credit card.

SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE TRIP - Fri. Oct 13, 8am

Transportation will be provided to/from the Social Security Office. Free of charge but space is limited to the first 11 students. To register click HERE.

STATE FAIR OF TEXAS - Tues. Oct 10, (during fall break) 10am

Celebrate all things Texas as the annual State Fair. Experience the popular State Fair food of the year including - Dr. Pepper chocolate chip icecream, Doritos bacon mozeralla cheese stick, State Fair edible cola (in a cup you can actually eat) and so much more! Discounted admission will be available with ISSS. Registration required.

A global showcase of foods and performances celebrating international education at SMU. Cohosted by ISSS, Delta Sigma Theta, and Kappa Delta Chi. FREE EVENT.
