Placement Testing
At SMU, a few courses require placement tests for students to enroll.
Placement testing determines your current level of skills and knowledge, ensuring that you have the best chance for success. If you need to enroll in Chemistry I or a second language, click an option below for more information about the placement test. Placement tests are non-credited and are not timed.
The Calculus placement test will only be available in person. Incoming students have been pre-placed into Pre-Calculus or Calculus based on their previous academic experience.
If students placed into Pre-Calculus would like to enroll in Calculus instead, they can take in-person placement tests offered during Stampede, before the first week of class. Students unsure about their placement or the need for a placement test can talk to their advisor during Mustang StartUp.
Continuing students who need to take a Calculus placement test in order to enroll should reach out to the Math department (math@smu.edu) to arrange an in-person test.
