Alumni Prayer 2025
Perkins Alumni Council member, Rev. Dr. David Mingus leads a prayer as students start their journey of theological education.
Prayer for Incoming Students of Perkins School of Theology, written by Perkins Alumni Council member, Rev. Dr. David Mingus (MDiv 2006, DMin 2018)
Eternal and Ever-Present God,
You who speak across nations, cultures, and generations,
We give thanks for the call You place upon the lives of students around the globe— to seek You more deeply, to serve You more faithfully, and to proclaim Your love more boldly.
We lift to You those whom You are drawing — from cities and small towns, from distant countries and nearby communities— to the sacred space of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
Whether they come with questions or convictions, with clarity or with wonder, prepare their hearts for the journey ahead.
May Perkins be for them not only a place of theological learning, but a community of grace and hospitality, where cultures enrich one another, and Christ is encountered in every voice.
Grant them courage as they leave familiar places, strength as they face the challenges of study, and joy in the friendships and formation that await them.
Bless the faculty and staff with wisdom and compassion, that they may nurture minds and shape spirits for ministry in all its forms—across continents, traditions, and callings.
Let this community reflect Your Kingdom: diverse, united, and rooted in love.
We pray that every student who enters Perkins will be transformed, not only for their own sake, but for the sake of the Church, the world, and the mission You entrust to us all.
In the name of the Living Word, Jesus Christ,
Amen.
