Dr. Rodney Waldrop Pirtle (1934–2026)

Dr. Rodney Waldrop Pirtle '93 of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully May 17, 2026, at the age of 91. After distinguished careers as an educator, coach and school administrator, he earned his degree from Perkins School of Theology and answered a call to ministry. He later combined his pastoral vocation with a lifelong love of music, performing alongside his wife, Beth, and serving his community through church and civic leadership. Known for his wisdom, generosity and joyful spirit, he is survived by his wife of 70 years, Beth, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. Read his obituary.

 

The Rev. Dr. David Alan Eadie (1944–2026)

Rev. Dr. David Alan Eadie '70 of Quincy, Illinois, passed away June 1, 2026, at the age of 81. A graduate of McKendree College and Perkins School of Theology, he later earned a Doctor of Ministry from Christian Theological Seminary and served 46 years in United Methodist ministry. His appointments included congregations across Illinois, service as District Superintendent of the Illinois River District, and leadership as chair of the conference Board of Global Ministries. Known for his compassionate leadership, commitment to justice and enduring kindness, he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gwynn, their daughters, grandchildren and extended family. The Rev. Montie Wayne Stewart (1939–2026)

Rev. Montie Wayne Stewart '64 of Hannibal, Texas, passed away May 6, 2026. After answering a call to ministry, he earned his degree from Perkins School of Theology and faithfully served for decades as a United Methodist pastor, hospital chaplain and hospice chaplain throughout North Texas. Known for his kindness, unwavering faith and compassionate spirit, he touched countless lives through his ministry and devotion to family.
