Jolene de Verges, Director; Film and Media Arts and Creative Computation Librarian

Jolene provides leadership for the collections, services and technology, including the Bywaters Special Collections and G. William Jones Film and Video Collection. She also works collegially with the staff and faculty of the Meadows School to address their information needs and to promote the resources and services of the libraries. She holds a BA in Art History from the University of Oregon and an MA in Art History from the University of Oklahoma. She received her MLS from Simmons College.

Beverly Mitchell, Assistant Director; Art, Art History, Dance and Fashion Media Librarian


Beverly oversees new and existing initiatives in Hamon, which includes management of the Hawn Gallery exhibition program, space planning and renovation, and the library’s blog. As Art and Dance Librarian, Beverly works with the art, art history, and dance departments, providing reference, instruction, and collection development and management for these programs. She has an MA in English and MLS from the University of North Texas. Her areas of interest include collection development, professional and grant writing, for which she teaches workshops.

Megan Heuer, Head of Information Literacy; Communication Arts Librarian

Megan works from the Fondren Library with Advertising, Arts Administration and Arts Entrepreneurship (AMAE), Communication Studies, and Journalism, providing reference, information literacy instruction, and collection development for those programs. Before coming to SMU, Megan worked as the head librarian at The Art Institute of Fort Worth, a commercial arts college. She also did work for the Norwick Center for Digital Services at SMU as well as for the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth library. She has an MLIS from the University of North Texas (2013) and an MM from Yale University (2002). Her areas of professional interest include instructional design and library marketing and outreach.

Pamela E. Pagels, Music and Theatre Librarian

Pamela joined the Hamon Arts Library in October 2012. Her duties include collection development, reference, and bibliographic instruction in addition to liaison work with the music faculty in the Meadows School of the Arts. Prior to coming to SMU, she worked as the Jazz Studies Librarian and taught the graduate course, Intro to Music Bibliography in the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington. Pamela earned a MM in Performance (Double Bass) from Northwestern University and the dual degree MA in Musicology/ MLS (Music Librarianship Specialization) from Indiana University. Her librarianship interests include areas of digitization and access--especially for special collections-- and digital humanities. Musical research interests include fourteenth-century polyphony, particularly in the music of Guillaume de Machaut.

LaGail Davis, General Operations Manager

LaGail joined the Hamon staff in December of 2008. She manages the Access Services desk, building maintenance and security as well as marketing projects. LaGail received her BFA in Advertising Design with a minor in Marketing from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas and a Masters of Liberal Studies degree with a concentration in Arts and Cultural Traditions from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

Chris Rincon, Stacks Maintenance Manager

Chris joined the Hamon staff in March 2017. He has almost 20 years of experience working in local colleges and universities such as Texas Tech, University of Texas at Arlington and the Dallas County Community College District. He holds a BA degree in Communications and Advertising from University of Texas at Arlington and earned a Skills Achievement Award for IT Security from Brookhaven College.

Emily George Grubbs, Archivist, Bywaters Special Collections

Emily received her BA from Southern Methodist University and her MLS from University of North Texas. She is responsible for processing collections, assisting researchers, digitization and social media.

Jeremy Spracklen, Moving Image Curator, G. William Jones Film and Video Collection

Jeremy began working in the Hamon Arts Library in 2011 and has worked exclusively with the G. William Jones Film and Video Collection.  In addition to his work at SMU, he also works for the USA, Telluride and Traverse City Film Festivals.  He earned BA degrees in both HIstory and Philosophy at UT Arlington as well as an MA in History in 2015.  His work in the archive is currently focused on the digitizing and cataloging of the WFAA Newsfilm Collection, a collection of almost 3,000 16mm film rolls from the Dallas ABC TV affiliate TV station.

Scott Martin, Moving Image Curatorial Assistant, G. William Jones Film and Video Collection

Scott joined the Hamon staff in October 2017.  He works exclusively with the G. William Jones Film and Video Collection, where he previously worked as a part-time student employee. His responsibilities include the processing of film elements in various formats, from inspection and repair to digitization and storage, as well as film projection, asset management, and assisting in the outreach and promotion for the Collection itself.  He holds a BA degree in Mathematics and English, with an emphasis on Creative Writing, from Texas Tech University and an MA in Film and Media Studies from Southern Methodist University.
