Initiatives
Narrative Now
Narrative Now (NN) is a pioneering force, focused on the art and study of storytelling. NN pays close attention to stories by and about marginalized cultures, exploring innovative narrative structures, voices and mediums whose presence has too often been isolated or ignored.
New Pony
New Pony is a special-projects division of Southwest Review. With a focus on multimedia projects, this initiative taps into the expansive vision of Southwest Review and its commitment to film, audio and immersive properties – all on top of its lauded print work.
Project Poëtica
Project Poëtica positions SMU as a major center of the English-language poetry world. The initiative expands the university’s commitment to poetry and the literary arts through the biennial SMU Symposium on Poetic Form, three book lines with Bridwell Press and an ambitious series of readings, lectures, symposia and creative conversations.
Dallas Literary Festival
A celebration of vital writing, Lit Fest is the city’s premier literary festival – one designed to showcase and encourage conversations about contemporary literature, both on campus and in the larger community.
Southwest Review
Southwest Review is an exciting, cutting-edge lit mag that publishes a quarterly print edition and weekly web content. More than a magazine, however, Southwest Review has, in the last two years, released a vinyl record, started a podcast series, organized a yearly Frontera festival and produced a book by author Barry Gifford.
