A professor orientation to the UTC Portal
Proctors in the University Testing Center will monitor students during their exam. The testing environment and its computers are also electronically monitored and recorded to include real-time video and screen captures. Proctors watch from a seated position in the room, walk through the room and view a computer screen showing a video feed from the cameras inside the testing room.
All incidents of academic dishonesty and suspected violations will be documented. The proctor will report the incident to the University Testing Center full-time staff and will write an incident report, which will be submitted to the instructor providing the exam and the Dean of Students Office for appropriate course action.
Examples of academic dishonesty or misconduct:
Please review the University Testing Center’s hours of operation prior to requesting exams. Times and dates are subject to change with regards to holidays, community events, and inclement weather. The University Testing Center extends its hours during the fall/spring midterms and final exams.
If the campus is closed due to inclement weather or an unexpected event, students’ appointments during that time will automatically be canceled. Students will be sent instructions to reschedule. In the event of a multi-day weather event, it could significantly delay operations and may cause a backlog of testing needs. In this case, instructors will be notified of possible delays due to operational contacts (e.g., number of testing seats vs demand).
Schedule an professor consultation to make the testing experience easier for you and your students! A University Testing Center staff member will sit down with you and show you what steps need to be taken to successfully administer an exam at the University Testing Center. Each consultation can be done via a Zoom online meeting or in the University Testing Center, located in the basement of Clements Hall near room G14.
What information will we go over during the Instructor Consultation?
The topics covered in the consultation are largely up to you; however, here are some topics that we will emphasize during the consultation.
Request a Consultation
To request a one-on-one consultation, please email us directly at universitytestingcenter@smu.edu, and a staff member will work with you to find a convenient meeting time.
The UTC Portal allows instructors to determine when students can test, upload exams for proctoring at the University Testing Center (UTC) or in some cases, at Disability Accommodations & Success Strategies (DASS). Plus, access tests returned to the professor following the student testing.
The linked document reviews all the above actions for professors.
Looking for accommodation letters and now just testing? DASS Link allows professors to review accommodation letters.
