Perkins to Host Hybrid Program Virtual Information Session May 7

HOUSTON (SMU) – Learn about hybrid graduate theological education through SMU Perkins School of Theology during a special, online information session, “The Houston-Galveston Virtual Experience” set for Thursday, May 7 at 10 a.m. CST. Prospective students from across the globe are invited to join this session via Zoom and can register by clicking here.

The program, which offers the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and Master of Arts in Ministry (M.A.M.) degrees, meets students where they are—spiritually and geographically—through hybrid courses and one-week intensives on-site in Houston.

Perkins faculty and staff, including Houston Galveston Extension Program Director Dr. Hugo Magallanes and Associate Dean for Enrollment Management Dr. Margot Perez-Greene, will be on-hand to provide details about the hybrid program—which is significantly more cost-effective than a traditional residential program—including information about financial aid, curriculum, and the two masters’ degrees. In addition, current students enrolled in the hybrid program will provide first-hand accounts of their experiences.

The flexible hybrid schedule provides an opportunity for students to attend seminary while still employed full- or part-time, reduces the cost to students—both financially and in travel time—and creates a smoother transition for students and their families. Currently, students from across the United States are enrolled in the program, traveling to Houston for two weeks during the fall and spring semesters and for one-week intensives during January Term and summer, and continuing the courses via hybrid format throughout the terms.

The Houston-Galveston Program offers three courses per semester (fall and spring) and three courses during the summer. Students who successfully complete each of these courses in the regular sequence will earn the M.Div. degree in three years and the M.A.M. degree in two years.
