Tenure Track Positions

Dedman College is accepting the following applications for tenured track positions to begin Spring or Fall 2020:

Biology.  Position No. 00006024. The Department of Biological Sciences in Dedman College at Southern Methodist University is under expansion, with plans to fill a number of junior and senior faculty positions in the next five years.  The Department currently invites applications for a tenure-line faculty position, at either the Assistant, Associate or Full level.  Applicants for the position should have a PhD, MD/PhD or MD degree, postdoctoral experience, and a record of research excellence.  Senior level applicants should also have a history of significant external support.  Preference will be given to individuals with potential to interact with current faculty in the areas of neurobiology, cancer biology, developmental biology, epigenetics, biochemistry, aging or emerging infectious diseases. Candidates will be expected to develop a strong extramurally funded research program.  Competitive start-up funds and generous lab space in the Dedman Life Sciences Building will be offered.  The successful candidates also will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching.  For a more complete description of our program and facilities, please see our website at http://www.smu.edu/biology/. English. Position No. 00006283. The English Department at Southern Methodist University invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professorship in creative writing beginning in the fall of 2020. We welcome specialists in all genres. To qualify, a candidate must have an advanced degree in creative writing (MFA or Ph.D.) and a record of literary accomplishment including the publication of at least one book via a nationally recognized press, along with appearances in top-tier periodicals. A record of success in undergraduate teaching is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will teach upper-level creative writing workshops and our introductory course, which focuses on elements of craft essential to all of the genres we teach. Additional responsibilities include serving as academic advisor to creative writing students and working with the director of creative writing and the department’s faculty to support the program’s goals. (SMU does not currently offer any creative writing coursework at the graduate level.) Statistical Science.   Position No. 00006034  The Department of Statistical Science at Southern Methodist University (SMU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2020. Candidates must hold a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, or related discipline at the time of the appointment. Evidence of excellence in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels is highly desirable. The successful candidate must demonstrate the potential to develop an agenda of independent and collaborative research, and to attract extramural funding. Although we will consider applicants from all sub-disciplines of statistical science, we will give special attention to those with interests at the interface between statistics and computing.
