About

Karisa Cloward received her Ph.D. from Yale University in 2010, and is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science. Her research and teaching interests place her at the intersection of international relations and comparative politics, with particular attention to non-governmental organizations, international norms and transnational activism, international aid, Sub-Saharan African politics, and gender and politics.

Professor Cloward's first book, When Norms Collide: Local Responses to Activism against Female Genital Mutilation and Early Marriage, addresses how local communities respond to activism against the traditional practices of female genital mutilation and early marriage in Kenya.
