Online training is available for many of the services and software supported by the Office of Information Technology. For all other software, we do offer thousands of video training courses, available 24/7, through lyndaCampus.  

Canvas Workshops

CanvasThese walk-in workshops cover the newly introduced Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) that replaces Blackboard. Registration is required only for webinars.

Intro to Canvas: Learn the basic user interface, how to log in, explore the Canvas interface, understand notification and communication options.
Mastering Modules: Learn why modules are one of the best and most popular ways to design a Canvas course.
Quizzes:  This workshop is designed to show you how and when to create quizzes in Canvas.
Assignments & Grade Book*: In this session we will cover assignment creation, student submissions, instructor grading, rubrics, Speed Grader and more!
Canvas Course Set Up*: Join us as we show you a fast and simple way to get your course up and running. Bring your flash drive with course documents (PowerPoint, syllabi, readings, images, etc.) and we will show you what you need to know to get started!

my.SMU Training

Security and training for my.SMU (formerly Access.SMU) must first be approved by the Registrar’s Office or appropriate Module Lead. Managers may request security and training for their employee by submitting a Help Desk ticket. Please note, for security purposes the Training Team can only accept my.SMU training requests via the Help Desk ticket system. Instructions for selecting the appropriate form can be found here. Once the Training Team has received approval to train on my.SMU, we will schedule the appropriate in-person or online training.

Over 80 web based tutorials used for Academic Advising, Admissions, Campus Community, Financial Aid, Student Financials and Student Records.

my.SMU Self Service Tutorials 

Contains over 50 step-by-step guides and tutorials for Faculty, Staff and Students. Staff will find the TIMEaccess resources helpful. Faculty information on Gradebook, processing grades, and advising is available. Students can access instructions for enrolling, updating personal information and viewing academic and financial information.

SMU Financials Tutorials

SMU Financials- 20 web based tutorials used for Getting Started, Set-up and Defaults; Searching for Vendors, Vouchers, and Payments; Journals; and Additional Links: Accounting Concepts and Tips.

Before SMU Financials training can be taken an account request form must be submitted by your Financial Officer on your behalf. You’ll need to have your FO open a help desk ticket. They will need to complete the following items:

  • Under IT Forms select Account Request
  • select employee accounts,
  • select Financial Accounts
  • select New SMU Financials Account.


Once the managers of the Financial system receive the ticket, they will send it to us indicating which type of financials training you need.
