SMU’s day of service is co-sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and the Community Engagement and Leadership Center. Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to serve at a variety of local nonprofit centers, such as prepping and stocking classrooms for the spring semester at the Vickery Meadows Learning Center, playing bingo with senior residents at C.C. Young, and painting hallways at the Autism Treatment Center.  Volunteers also are needed to build ramps at homes of those with physical disabilities through the Dallas Ramp Project, to facilitate art workshops at the Nexus Recovery Center, and to organize and restock a grocery story with Brother Bill’s Helping Hand.

Breakfast, lunch and transportation will be provided for SMU volunteeers.

“Service is not only an opportunity for students to invest in the community they are a part of,” says Creston Lynch, director of SMU multicultural student affairs. “It is also an opportunity to continue the learning and development of important lessons and values that will serve them well as they become global citizens and world changers.”
