...“The Art of Remembrance” is an exhibition featuring 22 years of student artwork at Southern Methodist University that reflects “the global human struggle for tolerance and dignity.” It runs through Sunday at the Goodrich Gallery, First United Methodist Church, 1928 Ross Ave. in Dallas.

The rights issues represented range from genocide to country-sponsored torture to death penalty injustices. Rick Halperin, whose SMU course “America’s Dilemma: The Struggle for Human Rights” inspired much of the work, calls the pieces “phenomenal” and “a tribute to all who have inspired the students to be empathetic to difficult subject matters involving bad human behavior. It is a tribute to the students themselves, many of whom are now parents hoping to help their own children to be empathetic to such issues.”
