DALLAS (SMU) — Game::Business::Law officials have announced that the annual summit will be held January 24-25, 2013, on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Game::Business::Law 2013 SummitIn addition, a complete overview of the 2012 summit, featuring videos of the keynote and each session, is now available online at guildhall.smu.edu.

In its fifth year, the Game::Business::Law Summit — hosted by The Guildhall at SMU, SMU’s Dedman School of Law and The Center for American and International Law (CAIL) — brings top game industry business development leaders, game developers, publishers, lawyers and members of the venture capital and financial industry from around the world to explore the core business trends and legal issues impacting the growth and future of the video game industry.

“We keep hearing from industry leaders that games take the law and finance where it has never been before,” says Gary Brubaker, director of The Guildhall at SMU.  “Gaming companies and publishers need to manage the demands of user-generated content, free speech, online ownership and new  ways to play, pay and publish games.  The legal, business and financial part of gaming is becoming as important as the development of the game itself. That is why SMU and CAIL are proud to sponsor this conference each year.”
