SMU leads DFW-area universities in Forbes magazine ranking
SMU is the highest-ranking university in North Texas and in the top 20 percent of U.S. Universities in the Forbes survey of America’s Top Colleges.
The survey ranks SMU 105 out of 650 surveyed colleges and universities, based on an examination of student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt, four-year graduation rate and academic success. The University of Dallas in Irving ranked 120, Texas Christian University in Fort Worth ranked 214, the University of Texas at Dallas ranked 385, the University of Texas at Arlington ranked 560 and the University of North Texas ranked 574.
Princeton University is ranked first on the list. The highest-ranking university in Texas is Rice University in Houston, which is ranked 37. Forbes noted in its announcement that the rankings “focus on things that matter most to students: quality of teaching, great career prospects, high graduation rates and low-levels of debt.”
The 650 institutions of higher education included in the Forbes rankings award undergraduate degrees or certificates requiring four or more years of study, and are classified by the Carnegie Foundation as doctorate-granting universities, masters’ colleges and universities or baccalaureate colleges.
