BIRMINGHAM (SMU) - The social media channels were buzzing with the excitement of SMU's playing — and defeating — the Pitt Panthers in Saturday's 2012 BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Ala.

"I don't use the word perfect very often, but today was nothing short of it," blogged first-year fan Michael Pittman after SMU's victory. "How else do you describe meeting President Turner, getting on ESPN, and taking a picture with THE Eric Dickerson? The weather was beautiful — 60 degrees and sunny. Our Mustangs pulled off a 28-6 win against a solid Pittsburgh team. I love my school."

Former SMU great Eric Dickerson, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, spoke to the Mustangs after the game: "Way to make Dallas proud. Way to make SMU proud. Way to make yourselves proud. You will always remember this game."
