"SMU: It's a State of Mind"

Welcome to Family Weekend 2011 - Sept. 16 - 18

September 12, 2011

Family at SMU Family WeekendSMU families will celebrate in Texas style during Family Weekend 2011. Set for September 16-18, the weekend has a theme of "SMU: It's a State of Mind."

"The Texas theme really works with everything we have planned, from the Dads' Club barbecue to Cowboys Stadium tours," says junior John Angle, chair of the Student Foundation committee that is coordinating the events.

The weekend also includes a luncheon co-sponsored by the Mothers' Club, departmental open houses, a student talent show and tailgating on the Boulevard before the game against Northwestern State at Ford Stadium.

"Family Weekend is one of my favorite traditions," says Angle, who is an accounting major at Cox School of Business and a history major, with a Spanish minor, in Dedman College. "It's a chance for students to introduce their families to their professors, friends and SMU spirit, and for families to make great memories together."

This is an exciting year at SMU as we continue our multi-year Second Century Celebration, commemorating the University’s founding in 1911 and its opening in 1915. We hope you’ll have time to visit Centennial Hall, an interactive exhibit in Hughes-Trigg Student Center that celebrates students’ and professors’ achievements, Hilltop history and the University’s future.
