Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist UniversityDallas (SMU) - Bloomberg Businessweek has just released its biennial ranking of Executive MBA (EMBA) and Part-time MBA (PMBA) programs.

SMU Cox School of Business is pleased to announce its EMBA program ranked #7 among the top programs in the world and the Cox PMBA (Professional MBA) program ranked #7 in the U.S. SMU Cox is one of only three schools in the country with both MBA programs for working professionals ranked in the top 10.

In an earlier ranking, Businessweek ranked the Cox Full-time MBA program #12. That makes SMU Cox one of only two schools in the country to claim three MBA programs ranked in the top 15 by Bloomberg Businessweek. SMU Cox also ranks among the top 25 business schools in the rankings of U.S. News & World Report and Forbes.

"We are pleased that the Cox School continues to be recognized for giving students an exceptional educational experience," said Albert W. Niemi Jr., dean of the Cox School. "In a tough economic market, Cox helps students achieve a competitive edge in the business world.  Our outstanding faculty, a strong global network, a strategic location in one of the world's best cities for business, and a number of innovative programs, centers and institutes offer SMU Cox students an excellent return on their educational investment."

Results of the Bloomberg Businessweek EMBA ranking were based on a two-part survey of graduates and EMBA program directors from other schools. The graduate responses accounted for 65 percent of a school's score. Graduates were asked to rate the business school they graduated from on teaching quality, career services, curriculum and other aspects of their business school experience.

The PMBA rankings, according to Bloomberg Businessweek, were based on “separate measures of student satisfaction, academic quality, and post-graduation outcomes.”  To determine which programs rank highest in academic quality, the survey combined “six equally weighted measures: GMAT scores, average student work experience, the percentage of tenured teachers, the average class size in core business classes, the number of business electives available to part-timers, and the percentage of students who ultimately complete the program. The student survey contributed 40 percent of the final ranking, with academic quality and post-MBA outcomes contributing 30 percent each.”
