In its 20th year, the Dallas 100™ Awards, presented by the SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship, recognized the fastest growing, privately held companies in the Dallas area.

Dallas (SMU) - In its 20th year, the Dallas 100™ Awards, presented by the SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship, recognized the fastest growing, privately held companies in the Dallas area.

Despite the recession, the success of these companies indicates the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in North Texas, as these winning companies combined to generate sales of $6. 8 billion in the past three years, grew average sales from 2007 to 2009 by 203 percent, and grew number of employees from 11,644 in 2007 to 20,793 in 2009.    Sales for the top 10 winners combined represent a 337 percent increase in 2009 over sales in 2007.   The top 10 generated nearly $2 billion during the past three years.

“This is one of the most fantastic groups of companies in our 20 years of awards.  These businesses created more than 9,000 new jobs over the last two years.  They are role models for our entire economy, and an inspiration regarding what is possible in a free enterprise economy” said Jerry White, director of the Caruth Institute.  “These 100 companies refused to participate in the recession.”

The top companies were recognized at an awards ceremony at the Meyerson Symphony Center on November 17, with keynote speaker Carl Sewell, chairman of Sewell Automotive Companies.  Lisa Bormaster, publisher of the Dallas Business Journal, and Kevin Knox, assistant dean of external relations, SMU Cox School of Business, served as emcees for the event.

To qualify for the Dallas 100™, a company must be an independent, privately held corporation, proprietorship or partnership (not a subsidiary of a parent company) as of May 1, 2009; be headquartered in the Dallas area; have had sales of more than $500,000 in fiscal 2007; have had sales of not more than $75,000,000 in 2007; have a three-year sales history reflecting growth; and, have a credit report and character satisfactory to the Dallas 100™, determined at the sole discretion of the Dallas 100™.
