Jury selection to begin for Frisco man accused of spreading HIV

A Frisco man is scheduled to go on trial today for having unprotected sex with several women without telling them he had HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Philippe Padieu, 53, is charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was arrested in July 2007 after two women went to police in February of that year when they tested positive for the virus. The police investigation led to other victims. . .

Criminal cases involving HIV infections are "somewhat unusual, but it's not unheard of," said Fred Moss, a law professor at Southern Methodist University.
