RoundUp Facilitators

RoundUp Facilitators are upperclass mentors who help guide students through our off-campus extended orientation program by leading small groups, facilitating group activities, and fostering connection and fun. Facilitators have the power to positively impact the experience of new students here at SMU.

Facilitators will co-lead a small group of 10–15 incoming students through interactive activities and meaningful discussions designed to build connections and support a smooth transition into college life. You’ll collaborate with faculty, staff, and other student leaders while developing valuable leadership and teamwork skills along the way.

This role is a volunteer position with the opportunity to serve at one to three sessions during the summer based on your availability. Facilitators are required to attend their assigned session(s) in full, including all training days leading up to RoundUp. Ready to apply? Click the button below to get started!

Qualifications

  • Non-Graduating Undergraduate Student
  • Must have and maintain a minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA by the end of the Spring 2026 semester 
  • Completed one full semester at SMU by Spring 2026 and enrolled Fall 2026 semester 
  • Must be in good academic and conduct standing with SMU 
  • Respect for SMU and its mission  
  • Leadership Potential
  • Strong desire to positively lead and mentor incoming students
  • Show up with positive energy, maturity, and responsibility 
  • Connect easily with other students and creates a welcoming space 
  • Comfortable leading conversations and guiding group discussions 

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate increased skills in leadership, mentoring, and small-group facilitation
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to manage, teach, and lead others and work collaboratively to accomplish stated goals

Stampede Guides

Stampede Guides play a vital role in shaping the first impression of our newest students at SMU. Led by our Summer Orientation Leaders, this team is made up of enthusiastic, passionate student leaders who aren’t afraid to get hyped, lean into the silly, and bring energy to every moment of the welcome experience. They serve as mentors and trusted resources—answering questions, easing nerves, and helping new students feel confident and prepared for their first day of classes.

As a critical part of the welcome team, Stampede Guides help ensure incoming students feel supported, excited, and assured in their decision to attend SMU.
