Dr. John Easton Biography
Professor John Easton Joined the ADSA Team in Summer 2025.
Professor John Easton became the Assistant Provost for Student Academic Engagement and Success and Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Development of Student Athletes at Southern Methodist University in July 2025. In this position he will lead cross-campus collaborations to improve undergraduate academic success for first-year and transfer students, support the launch of professional advising at SMU, develop additional opportunities for summer academic bridge and academic recovery courses, and provide operational oversight of Academic Development of Student Athletes (ADSA).Dr. Easton graduated with a B.A. in Biology from the University of Kansas at Lawrence. He earned an M.S. in Civil Engineering and Ph.D. in Environmental Health Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He joined the Lyle School of Engineering in 2000 and participated in the launch of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2002. He has over 25 years of technical expertise in water quality modeling and monitoring, risk assessment, health hazard identification, NPDES permitting, stormwater management, environmental management, hydrology, epidemiology, air quality monitoring, pollution prevention, and solid and hazardous waste management. Dr. Easton served as Associate Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from 2019-2025. He was previously awarded the Tom Tunks Distinguished University Citizen Award in 2023 and the Provost’s Recognition Award for Teaching in 2022.
