Since its founding, the School of Theology at Southern Methodist University (today’s Perkins School of Theology) has promoted the ideal of service to humanity. During Paul B. Kern’s tenure as Dean (1920-1926), evidence of the School’s emphasis on service could be found in its curriculum, innovative educational outreach programs, and publications. One early publication in particular proclaimed the ideal openly in its one-word title: SERVICE.

SMU’s School of Theology published twenty-seven issues of SERVICE between May 1920 and March 1926. In addition to being a means of communicating with students and alumni, SERVICE publicized the School of Theology’s programs throughout the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. This digital collection presents the full text of twenty-six issues of SERVICE as searchable PDF files and two additional images of Theological Librarian Kate Warnick’s check lists.
