Bush Fellows Scholarship

The Department was delighted to be able to award the first George W. Bush Institute - SMU Economic Growth Initiative Fellowship this year to Abdullah Shamim. This Fellowship is part of the joint initiative between the Bush Institute and the Department and represents the combined commitment of both to educating a new generation of researchers and scholars. The Department looks for truly outstanding candidates for this very attractive Fellowship and we seek to give out one per year until we have up to three such Scholars in residence in our doctoral program at a time. Abdullah comes to the department from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a very strong background in Economics and Mathematics. He is very interested in studying Applied Mechanism Design in his time here to give him the training to solve important economic policy problems.
