Types of Service

Residential Commons residents have the opportunity to engage selected nonprofits in community service in a fall service day, monthly service opportunities, and a Residential Commons–specific alternative break experience. Integrating the community need in the experience of each Residential Commons creates a long-term vision and commitment by SMU, as well as bolster residential affiliation while forming meaningful connections with the Dallas community.

Individual Service

Engage Dallas offers three types of individual service offerings with our community partners. Individual service enables students to serve on their own schedules or propose more in-depth opportunities. Learn more about individual service types via Engage Dallas.
Monthly Service Engage Dallas volunteers gather on the steps.

Monthly Service

The primary pathway to serve through Engage Dallas is monthly service. Each month, the student director will organize a service opportunity for their respective Residential Commons so that students can address their Residential Commons’ social problem alongside other members of their community. Check back often as the opportunities are added regularly.
