Immersion Travel Registration Procedure

1. Apply for a passport if you intend to participate in an immersion outside the United States.
2. Fill out the online registration form below. This will serve as pre-registration if you are not ready to complete the Travel Registration Packet and pay the non-refundable immersion course fee.
3. Complete the Travel Registration Packet (link below) and turn it in to the GTE Program Office. You must complete both the email registration and turn in the registration packet to be fully registered for travel!
NOTES:
a. M.Div. students registering for their first immersion automatically receive a full travel stipend.
b. M.Div. students must register for academic credit to receive a full travel stipend. Travel stipends DO NOT cover registration fees or tuition.
c. If you are NOT an M.Div. student or are registering for a second immersion course you may apply for a travel stipend to cover part of the travel cost associated with the immersion (link below). Travel stipends DO NOT cover registration fees or tuition.

    Medical Insurance While Traveling Abroad

    This brochure describes the mandatory medical insurance program available to SMU students traveling on immersion courses. Students enrolling in a GTE sponsored immersion course will automatically be enrolled in this program for the duration of their travel, and will receive an email with information on confirming enrollment and obtaining a medical insurance information card.

    Important Note on Costs: For Perkins School of Theology Students enrolled in the M.Div. program and taking their first immersion course the costs of these courses will be a $200.00 immersion course fee plus tuition. A $500.00 cancellation fee will be assessed if a student withdraws from the course within 45 days of departure, or fails to complete the course. Check individual course websites for details. For all other students and participants the cost will vary according to the course. All participants desiring single accommodations will be assessed an extra fee. Limited travel stipends are available to Perkins students by application to the GTE director. Cost is subject to change. See individual course descriptions for complete costs. Students applying for travel stipends will not be required to make a final commitment until stipends are announced.

    Prerequisites: All immersions have pre-requisites. Students should check with individual lecturers to ensure that they have met pre-requisite requirements before registering.

    Travel Registration Deadlines: Registration for January 2011 is December 1, 2010. Registration for Spring Break 2011 Immersions is now closed.

    Global Theological Education Travel Registration Form

    Use this form to register for all Global Theological Education Immersion Courses.

    1. Begin by filling out this online form. 

    2. Then download, print out, read, and fill out the Global Theological Education forms packet.

    3. Submit the forms packet with a copy of your passport and the $200.00 travel registration fee to the GTE office.

    4. Complete academic registration for the course when this becomes available.

    Remember that you are not registered for the GTE immersion course until you complete all 4 steps.
