Letters of Recommendation - Include the names of those who will be sending letters of recommendation on your behalf.
You will need recommendations from the following:
- Pastor, chaplain, ordained minister, campus minister or clergyperson who knows you best
- Professors from your college or university career best acquainted with you and your academic work
(Applicants who have been out of school for five years or more may substitute employment references)
- A person in lay leadership in the church or campus ministry you are affiliated with
Letters of Recommendation should be sent directly to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid with the accompanying form. Your application will not be considered complete until all four letters of recommendation and accompanying forms have been received.

Essay Section - The essays are an important part of the application process and applicant evaluation. Please consider your responses to carefully. You may complete the essay in a .doc format, then copy and paste your essay into the appropriate section. There are three essays in this section:
A. Theological reflection essay - 250 words
For all degree applicants. Please answer the essay question in relation to "Intro to Theology" by Charles Wood.

B. Personal Statement Essay - 500 words
For all degree applicants. Note that the personal statement essays are specific to the degree path you are seeking
C. Personal Assessment Essay - 250 words
For all applicants degree applicants. Describe any personal accomplishments, experiences or aspect of your background - including family educational background, socioeconomic history, personal hardship experiences and/or ethnic background - which you believe will contribute a distinctive perspective that can add to the diversity of the SMU/Perkins educational environment. Explain how your accomplishments, experiences or background have affected your viewpoints and how your perspective will enhance the learning atmosphere at the Perkins School of Theology. Specifically, what perspective will you bring to Perkins' academic community, including the classroom, that you believe might otherwise be missing or underrepresented?
D. Additional Information
This section requests additional information regarding your housing needs, financials, and additional information if desired. You will also be given the opportunity to upload a current resume in either .doc or.pdf format.
