Alexandra Pugh

Alexandra is from Houston, Texas and studies Political Science and Music with a minor in Public Policy and International Affairs through the Tower Scholars Program. On the hilltop, Alexandra is a Provost Scholar, National Merit Scholar, and a member of the University Honors Program. In addition, she is a flutist in the Meadows Symphony Orchestra and Meadows Wind Ensemble. Alexandra is also a voting member of the SMU Writing Board, the panel responsible for developing and evaluating the university’s academic writing curriculum. Alexandra serves as the head drum major for Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps, leading the corps on national tour each summer; she is a recipient of the Jim Jones Leadership Award, the highest honor a drum major in the U.S. can receive. Alexandra applies her passion for music and social change to her role as founder and instructor of Downbeats, a music program designed to engage disadvantaged students in the arts.
