Abby Herrera

Abby is from Springdale, Arkansas, and is majoring in Health and Society on the Pre-Health track with minors in Biology, Neuroscience, and Public Policy and International Affairs. Abby is also a first-generation college student, Rotunda Academic Scholar, Undergraduate Research Assistant for the Voices of SMU Oral History Project, Lead Student Worker at Hughes-Trigg Student Center, and Freshman Chair for Mary Hay, Peyton, Shuttles Residential Commons Council. When not at SMU, Abby works full time at a local independent community pharmacy in Springdale serving historically underserved patients as a Pharmacy Clerk. Outside of class, Abby serves as a certified Spanish translator through online service opportunities organized by Translators Without Borders. She is also a new member of the Latina founded, multicultural sorority, Kappa Delta Chi. Abby is exceedingly passionate about achieving health equity and affordability through legislation focused on patient-centered health practices. After graduating from SMU, Abby hopes pursue a joint MD/JD program to maximize her impact in the local and national healthcare policy sphere.
