September 21, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm - Sorolla: A Musical Imagery

What do Joaquín Sorolla's paintings sound like? What rhythms and melodies might accompany his portraits and his Mediterranean beaches? In this audiovisual recital, renowned pianist Marta Espinós will perform a selection of works by Spanish composers that echo the luminosity and poignancy of Sorolla's art. The musical program will feature contemporaries of Sorolla along with composers of the subsequent generation whose distinctly Spanish works provide a vibrant aural parallel to Impressionist painting, including Isaac Albéniz, Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Turina, Óscar Esplá, Frederic Mompou, and Joaquín Rodrigo. This multisensory aesthetic experience will conclude with a discussion between Marta Espinós Pianist and Music Curator, and Carol Leone, Chair of Piano Studies and Professor of Piano, Southern Methodist University
