Matthew Esquivel
Graduate Candidate in History of the Christian Tradition
Matthew Esquivel is a doctoral candidate in the field of History of Christian Traditions. He seeks to contribute to the field in exploring the early Church’s notion of salvation as sharing in the life of God and the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church. He graduated with his Masters in Theological Studies from the Perkins School of Theology in May 2017.
He has also served in vocational ministry in non-denominational, charismatic church settings since 2009. Given his ecumenical initiatives in his ministry and his various degrees of involvement in the Episcopal Church, the Messianic Jewish Movement, and independent charismatic churches throughout his life, Matthew has particular interest in studying the various Christian communities of the early Church, particular those in the Roman Province of North Africa, and how these diverse communities understood, within their given contexts, what it meant to be the Church and to share in the life of God.
