Why Economics...

My first academic love was physics. This discipline whetted my appetite for learning high-level math and understanding the world through the interplay of deeply rational theory and empiricism. Economics holds to this tradition and applies this idea to an array of topics that overlap with my cultural interests. This alternative application allows me to study a very wide range of issues rigorously, a process that I currently and will continue to enjoy.

Interesting fact about me...

My upbringing, while not uncommon where I'm from, is certainly uncommon in academic circles. I was raised on 44 acres of land in rural East Texas. Riding horses, roping cows, fishing, hunting (deer, duck, turkey, wild pig) were all regular activities for me growing up. I spent a lot of time outdoors and am very influenced by these experiences.
