A: Subject specific tutoring is available on a drop in basis. Check the tutor schedule for available days and times at www.smu.edu/TutorSchedule.

 

A: After you meet with the tutor you found helpful, ask the tutor her/his work schedule, and attend drop-in tutoring during that time.

A: To make an appointment, go to your Canvas Calendar and click on "Find Appointment." Select the Writing Center course, and available appointments will populate your calendar. Choose one that works for you, and click "Reserve" in the appointment box. If you are having trouble making an appointment, please email Director Lydia Allen at LRAllen@smu.edu or Coordinator Shon Phillips at shonphillips@smu.edu. 

 

A: Yes.  The Writing Center offers writing help for ESL students. We offer an ESL specialist to work with you and can also refer you to ESL resources on Campus. Our current specialist is Professor Richard Treat. You may make an appointment with him in Canvas or email him at rtreat@smu.edu.

A: Yes.  The Writing Center helps SMU undergraduates with any writing project.  Schedule an appointment using the Writing Center course tile on your Canvas dashboard, and we will be happy to help you.

A: HDEV 1210- Academic Success and Personal Development is a two-credit, graded course designed to improve reading efficiency, executive functioning, and lifelong learning skills. Students can sign up for the class on my.smu.  More information is at www.smu.edu/HDEV1210.

 

A: Yes.  Learning specialists are available to meet with you to help with any study skill such as time management, note-taking, test preparation, memory and more.  They are also available to meet with you consistently throughout the semester to help you stay accountable to your goals.  Schedule a meeting at www.smu.edu/AcademicCounseling

 

A: Workshops cover a variety of learning strategies including time management, note-taking, stress management, textbook study reading, finals preparation and more.  More information is at www.smu.edu/SASPworkshops.

A: No. Your academic advisor helps students navigate the requirements of the Common Curriculum and all majors, and students will likely meet with them once or twice a semester. Academic counselors help students navigate the semester with meetings up to every other week. 

 

A: First-generation college students have access to all ACE resources and support. All that we ask is every time you visit ACE, sign in at the Armstrong front desk with your name and ID number. At ACE, you will have access to course specific tutoring with esteemed faculty, exclusive study spaces, access to technology, a community kitchen for breaks in between classes, and other exclusive benefits.

 

A: Yes, you can fulfill your Rotunda study hall hours at 3 locations: the A-LEC, ACE, and the Scholars Den. In order to receive credit, you must sign in and sign out with your name and ID number. If you do not sign in or forget to sign out, you will not receive study hall credit for that visit. You will receive directions on how to sign in and sign out at each location at the beginning of the semester.

A: You can request services, such as extended time for tests or other accommodations related to a disability by following the steps described on the DASS website at www.smu.edu/DASS.
