Philip Smith (Phil) is a Ph.D. candidate focusing on 19th century American history. His research interests include Indigenous history, the history of identity formation, and the history of the American West. Phil's work is concerned with exploring the evolution of identity among mixed-descent Ingenious people in the American West and their use of the political, social, and economic systems around them to both construct and defend their identity.
