March 27: Reception and Discussion

An Exploration of “Universities and Their Cities”

Steven J. Diner literally wrote the book about universities’ complex relationships with their host cities. He’ll be at SMU for a public lecture on the topic (Annette Simmons Hall, Room 144 at 2 p.m.). Right after the speech, the Faculty Club will host a “meet the author” reception, with time for conversation and discussion. The event is free to members and their guests.

April 10: Transcontinental Railroad

All Aboard! Going Coast to Coast

“A Highway to the Pacific,” a spring exhibit at SMU’s DeGolyer Library, features artifacts and memorabilia on the transcontinental railroad, celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. At an exclusive Faculty Club reception and tour, Library Director Russell Martin will be on hand to tell the stories behind the exhibit. Free for members.

April 24: Distinguished Speaker Luncheon

SMU’s Dinosaur Men and their Journey to the Smithsonian

SMU’s Louis Jacobs and Michael Polcyn are the scientists behind “Sea Monsters Unearthed,” an exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. The Faculty Club invited them to tell the story of the bones dug up in the West African nation of Angola and the long and winding road to the Smithsonian. Lunch: $12 for members, $20 for non-members.
