C.J. Enloe joined the Department of World Languages and Literatures as a Lecturer of Spanish in Fall 2022. She holds a Ph.D. in Romance Studies from Duke University and a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Spanish from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. C.J. is a specialist in 20th-century Iberian cultural and literary studies, with a particular interest in the intersections between gender, economics, and media culture. Her doctoral work explored the often contradictory messages that women’s magazines conveyed to readers regarding their economic roles within Spanish society during Francisco Franco’s dictatorship. C.J. lived in Madrid for two years while completing her dissertation research, and she continues to travel there whenever she gets the chance. She is passionate about undergraduate education, and enjoys teaching all levels of Spanish language and culture courses.
