Department of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at SMU is a research intensive department in the analytic tradition with particular strengths in Philosophy of Mind, Ethics, Moral Psychology, Metaphysics, Epistemology, and Philosophy of Science. Our faculty regularly publishes in leading philosophy journals, including Mind, Noûs, Philosophy and Phenomenological Research, the Australasian Journal of Philosophy, Analysis, Philosophical Studies, Philosophical Quarterly, and the British Journal for the Philosophy of Science. The department is also home to two philosophy blogs, Think Tonk and Brain Pains.

What's New

Hiring: The department is advertising two positions this year: one assistant professorship (tenure-track) and one open rank position (tenured or tenure-track). Both are open AOS and AOC. Look here for more information.

The Weight of Things

Jean Kazez's new book The Weight of Things: Philosophy and the Good Life (Blackwell, 2007) is now available.

Eric Barnes' new book The Paradox of Predictivism (Cambridge University Press) will be available April, 2008.
