SMU is committed to educating incoming and current students about Academic Integrity and requires participation in an online tutorial and quiz by new students each term.
Information for Faculty Members
Faculty members who suspect a student has violated the SMU Honor Code should follow one of these steps:
- Resolve the case informally with the student without filing any paperwork.
- Resolve the case formally in writing with the student by using the Faculty Disposition Form.
- Refer the case to the Honor Council for a hearing using the Disciplinary Referral Form to the Honor Council.
The faculty member may also choose to assess a grade-related or assignment-related penalty. For more information see the brochure “The Role of Faculty in Confronting Academic Dishonesty at Southern Methodist University”. Copies are available for free in the Dean of Student Life Office.
