Mission & Purpose
The Office of Student Transitions & Orientation provides ongoing programs and services that support new students and families in transition to Southern Methodist University. We provide a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, connect students to University resources and people, acquaint new students with institutional expectations and values, promote learning and discovery both inside and outside of the classroom, and foster pride in the SMU community.
A Two-Part Experience
In order to fully transition into the SMU community, orientation is a two-part experience. The first part of orientation is Academic Advising Registration & Orientation (AARO). This program is held on-campus and spans two days for first years and one day for transfer students.
The second part of orientation is Mustang Corral. Mustang Corral is the extended orientation programming including everything from Move-In to Convocation.
Throughout the two-part orientation experience at SMU, the Office of Student Transitions & Orientation will help you connect to the SMU People, the SMU Learning Environment, the SMU Campus, the SMU Spirit (values, history, & traditions), and the Dallas Community.
