The Department of Philosophy is outstanding in both teaching and research. The department offers a BA, and minors in Philosophy and Ethics. Upper level courses cover both historical figures and specialized topics like animal rights and the philosophy of mind. Many upper level courses are small, and writing intensive. There is an active, student-led Philosophy Club.
Our faculty members are distinguished researchers in the analytic tradition of Philosophy. We are particularly strong in the Philosophy of Mind, Ethics, Moral Psychology, Metaphysics, Epistemology, and Philosophy of Science. The department is home to the philosophy of mind blog, Brain Pains. A lecture series brings in prominent philosophers from the US and abroad.
