College Knowledge

SMU College Knowledge

The SMU College Knowledge Program provides services in selected Dallas Independent School District high schools to assist students with the college transition process. The primary services provided by SMU College Knowledge include:

  • Individual Student Assistance to complete Apply Texas, FASFA, Scholarship, and other processes required for college admission,
  • Student Classroom Guidance Sessions to help students identify careers and explore college options,
  • Data Collection Procedures to report student postsecondary success outcomes and,
  • Collaborative Efforts to support counselors, teachers, administrators, and create a college going culture on campus

SMU College Knowledge offers additional services and activities that support the creation of a college going culture on each campus it serves. Example services and activities include:

  • SAT Test Prep
  • College Tours
  • College Fair
  • College Decision Day
  • Summer Melt Program

Program Outcomes

Program outcomes for 2017-2018 include:

  • 4,542 individual student sessions held across one campus,
  • 185 student group sessions held across one campus,
  • 490 students committed to college enrollment for Fall 2017,
  • 92% of seniors completed college applications,
  • 79% of seniors completed FASFA/TASFA applications, and

Program Event Highlights

The College Knowledge Program at H. Grady Spruce High School celebrates the Class of 2019 with  its 2nd Annual Senior Commitment Ceremony. The Senior Commitment Ceremony gives each senior an opportunity to share with faculty, friends, family, and the Pleasant Grove community their post- secondary plans whether they plan to attend a post-secondary institution or enroll into a military service branch.
